Quoted total$13,900
Price per ton$3,475
Typical for this tier$2,600–$3,200

The price per ton runs about 10–30% above what we see for a 16 SEER2 system of this type. If the size drops, the total should drop too. Ask for an itemized price before negotiating.

    Want a second opinion?

Get a quote from a RightSizeAC Verified contractor who runs a Manual J on site and gives you the report.

    Why oversizing costs you

A bigger unit costs more up front, then short-cycles: it cools the air fast and shuts off before pulling moisture out. You get a clammy house, uneven rooms and more wear.

    What a load calculation measures

Heat soaking through walls and the roof, sun through windows, outside air leaking in, people and appliances, and ducts in hot spaces. Square footage alone says almost nothing about any of these.

    How to use this number

Bring it to every quote. If someone proposes a size more than half a ton above it, ask to see their Manual J report. A contractor who did one will have it.
